Professionalism

Posted by Unknown | | Posted On Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at 12:10 PM

Note: This picture has nothing to do with the text below.  Except that the little girl above is a professional at getting band aids for her "pretend" boo boo's.

Professionalism is what I am learning about in my Athletic Coaching Theory class that I am taking in order to receive my 60 in-service points for renewing my professional teaching certificate in 2012. Yeah, I do not like to procrastinate. It made me kind of laugh that we were taking notes on "How to be professional," but then it made me sad because one thing that is lacking is professionalism these days. It is sad that this type of characteristic has to be "taught." I know a few people who certainly need a class in it..........maybe I will recommend it to them.

Some qualities of professionalism to ponder:
1) One who handles themselves calmly, fairly, with "rightness"
--I am only as good as those who I surround myself with and who I have working for me.

--Are you buying into the professional's plan? If not.....get out......I have gotten out before, because I did not buy

into someone's work ethic, care for others, and attitude.

2) Attitude: positive or negative? Hopefully positive!

3) Ethics and Integrity: Treating people right with respect and courtesy.

    --Talking nicely to people.

    --Having good intentions.

--Taking care of others as you would want to be taken care of .

4) Trust: Your ability to keep your word. Your ability to do the right thing and making sound judgment.

Treating others how you would want to be treated. Thinking of them and how you would think they would want

    things to be handled.

5) Communication -- probably the biggest mistake "professionals" make.  How effective are you at listening and

responding to certain needs? Are you not being an effective communicator -- instead change that to being a

good listener and responding to those who are concerned.

6) Fairness -- treat everyone the same, show discipline, firmness, be consistent. (If your friend or family member

messes up, say they messed up and do not side with them. Do what is right and fair).

7) Be Accountable.

8) Ability to relate to others and of all ages.

9) Courtesy: being polite, saying please and thank you and not making crude remarks to people or yelling at them

    if they cannot do something.

10) Enthusiasm

11) Mentor: How is your example to those that are younger than you?

If you are a Christian, how you behave and talk to others in your community are you setting a good example

in word or deed for those that are younger than you?

      Are you a good friend?

Do you think of how you would want to be treated and treat others with the same respect that you

      would want?

12) Personal Improvement: there is always room for improvement no matter how well you are doing, so always

take time to reflect on how you can be a better you!

Hmmmm........lately I think I have been living in opposite world where the above ideals of professionalism have not been portrayed to me or my family. I want to strive to do better. I pray others want to too.

Let's try and be more professional!

Sonoran desert

Posted by Unknown | | Posted On Friday, September 24, 2010 at 4:52 PM

Hezekiah has been learning about the Sonoran desert this week and the animals that live there.  Here is his 3-D project.  Eli wanted to create a desert too, but I told him his had to be the Sahara because he has a camel and there are not any camels in the desert in North America.

Not too sure if you noticed, but there are vehicles in each desert.  I am sure their daddy, aka Page, has informed them of  baja races!

Hezekiah's thoughts about girls

Posted by Unknown | | Posted On Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at 11:33 AM

Hezekiah told me the other day, "Oh my gosh, I am sooooo glad I am not a girl."
Me, "Why?"
Hezekiah, "Because girls when they are older they have babies swimming in their tummies and then they have to get the baby cut out with scissors." (referring to the umbilical cord.....that we had just been talking about)

Hezekiah, "Mommy, when I am older and Eli has kids will I be their uncle?"
Me, "Yes."
H, "And if Maggie has kids I will be their uncle?"
Me, "Yes."
H, "And when I have kids Eli will be their uncle and Maggie will be their Aunt?"
Me, "Yes, so how many kids do you want Hezekiah?"
H, "Four, 2 girls and 2 boys."
Me, "Well, you know have to wait til you are at least 20 til you can have kids. You have to get married first and then you can have kids."
H, "Oh, I don't think I want to turn 20."

I think he may be all about the kids but not too into having a wife! Ha ha ha! We'll work on that!  I know one day girls will not be so gross to him.  At least he loves mommy and Maggpie!

Zoo Zoo

That is where we have been the past 2 days. The Zoo.

We went yesterday to see South America. We have been studying the
animals of South America in science so we went to see them. Hezekiah
did a report on jaguars and they have a jaguar there and when we got
there it was eating its breakfast. The kids also enjoyed the spider
monkeys and the vultures (for some reason).

As we were getting ready to leave the Wildlife Detective Area we found
out that you could do a scavenger hunt matching the patterns to the
animals. Since we ran out of time yesterday we went back today. The
boys had fun doing the scavenger hunt with their little clipboards.
They were so cute and so serious in finding the boxes and answers.

We also ran out of time yesterday to feed the birds. So we did that
today too. What is best is Page was able to come with us!

Maggie Beth's Tea Parties

Posted by Unknown | | Posted On Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 3:18 PM

Seriously, it is fun having boys.......but it is also fun to have a little girl in our house.  I get to play kitchen, baby dolls (with a lot of my old babies and toys I had as a little girl that my mommy saved for me), and tea parties.

A friend from Page's work gave Maggie this adorable little canopy crib and she has been having fun putting her babies to bed and giving them kisses each evening.  It's pretty adorable.

Are you interested in having a custom cake?

Consider Sweet G's! (Page's idea!)

I have had great feedback from the cakes I have made since Hezekiah's birthday last year so I thought I would advertise!

Eli's Pool Party #5

Eli's 5th, birthday party!

We celebrated at the pool with friends.  Let me just say, some awesome friends!  Who when at last minute I needed some extra help they came and they helped.  Precious, precious people you all are!  Thank you for your help and helping me stay grounded when my sweet husband was not feeling so well.  I am truly thankful to God for each of you!

We had a great time and Eli seemed to enjoy himself very much.  He loves swimming and he likes Team Umizoomi!
