My Thoughts on Kindergarten

Posted by Unknown | | Posted On Friday, August 23, 2013 at 10:49 AM

Kindergarten that grade where you learn how to share, read, and learn lots of fun things.
So, here is my take on Kindergarten.
When I was four years old I started Kindergarten.  I was the youngest in the class.  I enjoyed Kindergarten, because I think my teacher made it fun.  I remember lots of play time, learning my phone number and address.  I remember my first Kindergarten friend who sat beside me that first day of school, Sean Lickert.  We were the L's, and he and I went through school together and graduated from highschool in alphabetical order.
But one thing different about most Kindergarten's these days are the amount of time a little one needs to be at school.  When I was in Kindergarten we only went half the day.
Why do I think that a whole day is a bit much for this age?

My main reason is because my Kindergartener still takes a nap.
I know they have little rest times in Kindergartens out there, but let's be honest your own bed is a much nicer place to take a nap. And if it was me, I would probably be distracted by some kid snoring, or I would get in trouble for talking.

But these little Kindergarteners also need time to just imagine and time to play.
I am thankful I get this time with my Kindergartener and I am thankful that I get to teach her to read.

*Disclaimer:  I know homeschool is not for everyone.  And friends, you know what is best for your family.  This is just what I thought of the other day as I woke Magpie up from her nap.

School Eve

On school eve I decorated a bit!

Our first day for the 2013-2014 is complete!  We all survived.  It is surely a lot more work teaching 3 kids!  Anyone want to help or anyone who has free time each morning you are welcome to come over and I will put you to work!

So I created a spot for each child to do their work.  With three working all at the same time, space is limited in my home.  But we got this adorable little desk for Eli and he seems to love it.

The great thing about creating a space for each child is that they find new spaces to sit and read or do their work.  Evidence pictured above.

First Day of School August 19, 2013

Tomorrow will be our first day of school.  I will be schooling a Kindergartner, a Second grader, and a Fourth grader.  All 3 are super excited especially after our photo shoot today!

Maggie even accessorized for the photos.  She cannot wait to start school tomorrow!   I have some special things planned!

Eli is a second grader, but I have him doing third grade work.  He will tell you that too.  He has his new glasses this year to help.

I think he enjoyed the preview of one of his Science books.

Our eldest, Hezekiah is even looking forward to starting Fourth grade.  This 9 year old is full of energy.  So, I think he is  a bit excited to learn where all that energy stems from.

Here is to a wonderful start to a new school year.
May the Lord bless us and may His face shine upon us.

Tonto & Creepers

I suppose you cannot have The Lone Ranger without Tonto so Hezekiah made his little brother a hat and an ax this morning.
Hezekiah took a pirate hat and cut off the rim, then took an aluminum foil tube and created a bird for the top of the hat.  He used duct tape! Pretty creative and right on according to the LEGOs and movie.

While Hezekiah was creating a hat, Eli was creating Creepers, Steve, Skeletons, Axes, and Grass blocks from Mine Craft with Pearler Beads.  Yep, he was busy.  Maggie Beth helped too, she made colorful cookies.

The Lifeguards are Going to Love Us!

Posted by Unknown | | Posted On Monday, August 12, 2013 at 9:20 AM

We decided to welcome back a friend who went over seas this summer and we decided to bless the lifeguards with some peanut butter iced cupcakes.
The kids did the baking, I helped with the icing, and the kids did the decorating.
We already dropped off the cupcakes to our friend.
Looking forward to the lifeguards reaction.
