Art of Sand & Steak n Shake

This weekend we had the chance to go to the Art of Sand exhibition and watch some of the artists at work.

It was a great experience because Hezekiah who is not a big fan of drawing or coloring, really enjoyed the sculpting.

I am always excited to broaden the kids horizons, that if they do not like one thing about Art (like drawing or coloring), they might like something else, like sand, clay, etc.  Eli and Maggie Beth love coloring and drawing and they too enjoyed creating in the sand.  It was pretty neat to see the different techniques the sculptors used, I especially liked watching them use the straws and blowing air out to remove the delicate pieces of sand.

There is just something about a pile of sand and then the beauty that is carved out of it.

Amazing!  Reminds me of how God created humankind.

The kids enjoyed playing in the big sand box.  They enjoyed making sand castles.  Hezekiah told his brother and sister and the other kids that desired to play along that they would create the best sand sculpture and that they would win one thousand dollars.  He had several helpers.
