A Little History

On our way home from the Barrier Island Center we stopped in at the Melbourne Beach History Center.

Fun facts learned:

The Ais Indians use to live in this area and they called what is now known as the Indian River Lagoon the Great Bay of Ais.

There is a diorama of the Ais Indians displayed in the Historical center and we met the lady who made it and it took her one year.

That Ponce de Leon most likely landed near Melbourne Beach (even though this is a bit controversial historically speaking).

There is an adding machine there that takes longer to add than me or you adding numbers in our heads.  But the little lady speaking to us remembers them being used in stores when she was little.

There is a steroscope.

This building was floated down the Indian River lagoon to move it to its current location.
