A local, educational, & free way to spend the morning.......

The Barrier Island Center.

Where we live is prime sea turtle nesting habitat for Green, Loggerhead, and Leatherback sea turtles.

The Archie Carr Barrier Island Center is located across the causeway.  We have been driving by it on our way to the Inlet so we decided to go check it out this morning.  We learned more about sea turtles, the lagoon, adaptations of different organisms that live on the beach, looked at random parts of organisms under a microscope that placed the object on the video screen (we even looked at our hair and fingerprints), we saw some whale bones of a Fin Whale and Humpback, the skeleton of a green sea turtle, and played a game to see which turtle could make it safely to the ocean.

And it may just be me and Eli, but I adore looked at specimen collections of insects, shells, and seeds.
